Building Tomorrow’s Leaders in Christ

 History of the School

The Good Shepherd Anglican Seminary , Enugu was established by the Enugu Diocese of the Anglican Communion, originally under the name “The Good Shepherd Secondary School.”

The school officially began academic activities on Friday, October 15, 1993, with a dedication service led by the then Proprietor and Pioneer Bishop of the Diocese, The Rt. Rev. G. N. Otubelu (Late). At its inception, the school welcomed 76 students and 13 staff members.

In 2001, following a resolution passed at the Diocesan Synod, the school was renamed “The Good Shepherd Anglican Seminary, Enugu”. This name change, under the leadership of the current Proprietor and Bishop of Enugu Diocese/Archbishop of Enugu Province, The Most Rev. Dr. E. O. Chukwuma (OON), reflects the institution’s deeper spiritual alignment with the Church.

The school is situated in a peaceful and spiritually enriching environment within The Cathedral Church of The Good Shepherd, on Achi Street, Independence Layout, Enugu.

The current hostel facility is a renovated structure formerly known as EZINDU HOSTEL, once used by female students of the former Anambra State University of Technology (ASUTECH). Its transformation into a boarding facility marked a significant step in the school’s development and vision for holistic education.

Our Motto

DOMINUS REGNAVIT – “The Lord Reigns”
This powerful motto reflects the spiritual foundation upon which The Good Shepherd Anglican Seminary, Enugu was established.

Our Vision and Purpose

The school was founded with a strong vision by the late Bishop The Rt. Rev. G. N. Otubelu, who emphasized the need to:

Impart sound education that will be comparable—or even better—than what the Church achieved in the past. The students of the school should be made to embrace habits of discipline, honesty, truthfulness, love for others, and selflessness. The school will give prominence to character training in whatever it teaches.

Our Structure

To fulfill this vision:

  • The school operates as a full boarding institution.

  • A low and controllable student population was initially maintained to ensure discipline and create a conducive atmosphere for learning and spiritual growth.

  • Due to consistent excellence in both character and academics, the school has experienced increasing demand and growth in its student population over the years.

House System

Students are grouped into six (6) houses, each originally identified by a letter and matched with a color. These houses were later named after various Archdeaconries, maintaining a strong connection to the Church’s heritage.

House Color
A Blue
B Pink
C Yellow
D Red
E Green
F Purple

The House system fosters a sense of identity, teamwork, responsibility, and healthy competition among the students in academics, sports, and spiritual life.
